1 - Sat: Flight to Glasgow
Depart U.S. on your overnight flight to Glasgow. Enjoy inflight entertainment and
meals as you travel across the Atlantic.
Day 2 - Sun: Glasgow Touring
Arrive in Glasgow Airport where complimentary hotel transfers depart at 8:00 am,
10:00 am and 12:00 noon. Passengers arriving later will transfer to their hotel at their
own expense. At any time throughout the rest of the day you may use your voucher to start
your independent tour by double-decker bus around the main attractions of Glasgow. The bus
route takes you through George Square with its many statues and the City Chambers, past
Glasgow Cathedral and alongside the River Clyde, once a busy hub of the shipbuilding
industry. See many of the red sandstone Victorian buildings and some of the delightful
parks. Then return to your hotel and meet your tour director for a welcoming drink before
dinner in your hotel. (D)
Day 3 - Mon: Loch Ness Cruise & Highlands
Depart Glasgow and drive north into the Scottish countryside. Travel alongside Loch
Lomond to enjoy sweeping views of the mountain scenery. Then cross the haunting Rannoch
Moor and through Glen Coe, notorious for the massacre of the Clan Macdonald by the
Campbells in 1692. Continue along the shores of Loch Linnhe and through Fort William to
Fort Augustus at the southern end of Loch Ness. Embark on a cruise on this mysterious body
of water to admire the views of the mountains around the rim of the loch and keep an eye
out for "Nessie." Drive beside Loch Ness and on to Culloden Moor to view the
site where Bonnie Prince Charlie fought the last battle on Scottish soil in an attempt to
regain the throne for Scotland in 1746. Drive to Inverness for dinner and overnight. (B,

Day 4 - Tue: Pitlochry & Scone Palace
Travel south through the magnificent Highland scenery of the Cairngorm and Grampian
Mountains to Pitlochry. Just outside the town visit Edradour Distillery, Scotland's
smallest distillery set in a picturesque valley. Discover the secrets of making Highland
malt whisky and enjoy a "wee dram." Then drive to visit Scone Palace, a few
miles from Perth. The Stone of Scone, on which Scottish kings were crowned until 1296, was
kept on the nearby Moot Hill before being taken to Westminster Abbey. The present palace
was built in 1803 and contains excellent collections of antiques. Continue south into
Edinburgh to check into your centrally located hotel. At this evening's Scottish cabaret
sample local specialties, including haggis, and enjoy traditional bagpipe music. (B, D)
Day 5 - Wed: Edinburgh Highlights
This morning take a sightseeing tour of Edinburgh city center, which consists of
two main areas the medieval town and the Georgian
"New Town." Travel along the Royal Mile to see the narrow medieval houses which
are 11 stories high in some places. Then visit the New Town which is 200 years old and see
the delightful spacious streets and squares with their gracious houses. Pass the Palace of
Holyroodhouse, the official Scottish residence of the Queen. Finish your sightseeing
program with a guided tour around the imposing Edinburgh Castle and enjoy a splendid view
of the city from the battlements.The afternoon is free for independent sightseeing or
shopping along Princes Street. On departures from August 03 to 17 you can enjoy the
Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle. (B)
Day 6 - Thu: Abbotsford & York Minster
Drive through the gentle hills of the Borders country of Scotland to Abbotsford to
visit Sir Walter Scott's home where he wrote most of his novels. Stop to view Hadrian's
Wall, the Roman-built barrier separating Scotland from England and journey across
Northumberland and the Yorkshire Moors to York. Take a walking tour around the center of
York to see the winding medieval streets and ancient houses. At the end of the tour visit
the majestic York Minster renowned for its stained glass windows. (B, D)
Day 7 - Fri: Stratford-upon-Avon
Travel south to visit Coventry Cathedral, an excellent modern design built after
World War II when the medieval edifice was bombed. Continue to Stratford-upon-Avon to
visit Anne Hathaway's Cottage. This Elizabethan farmhouse was the home of Shakespeare's
wife and, with much of its original 16th century furniture, conveys the atmosphere of
Shakespeare's life. Enjoy a little free time to browse around this lovely town with its
many half-timbered houses dating from Shakespeare's time. Then drive on into London where
the evening is free for independent activities - there is no shortage of entertainment in
this capital city. (B)
Day 8 - Sat: London Tour
This morning take a guided tour of London's best-known landmarks in and around
Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. Drive by the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben and
visit St. Paul's Cathedral, which is full of historical monuments. The afternoon and
evening are at leisure so that you can do some shopping or sightseeing on your own. (CB)
Day 9 - Sun: Depart for Home
Today is the final day of your tour so travel to Heathrow Airport by group coach
transfer or to Gatwick Airport by independent coach transfer. Allow plenty of time for
check in formalities and do some duty free shopping before your flight home. (CB)
